Mid-Term Exam Tips and Tricks

Hi all-- Quick recap on the assignment:  As a group, you need to create and present at least 20 minutes of material. Can take the form of skits, monologues, "something fantastics," &c. In that, you must MAKE FUN of the people who have missed a class so far: Lou, Anara, Hannah, Donna.  Making fun = creating fun for the performer, the subject, and the audience!  Stuff worth looking at for inspo in terms of format ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoU95Sdmag4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZhjIyGmrRQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hekDuCBxCc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7VaXlMvAvk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ampk-nAx54 (you can jump around on this one-- don't have to watch all the way through. The first couple minutes aren't great.) TIPS AND TRICKS:  Focus on what's funny and compelling, rather than story or narrative. HAVE FUN. Go all the way. Push yourselves. Go too far.   HAVE FUN. Make contact.  HAVE FUN.  Do something fan...

fun films (classy n trashy)

Homework for Monday

Watch (online or from hard drive on reserve in library):    Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work Sarah Silverman: A Speck of Dust. (this one's on Netflix as well) Things to look for/think about with these two pieces are the work and craft of comedy, and the work and craft of choosing to go beyond limitations of taste/safety.  Do: Observe three different people (no one in class) and come in prepared to imitate them. Physicality, voice, mannerisms all acceptable. The key to this is the observation aspect, even more-so than the doing it aspect.

Homework for Thursday: Something Fantastic!

Come in prepared to do something fantastic. The rules/limitations are: - No words (written, spoken, or otherwise) - No recorded music - MUST be 2 minutes or less - Keep yourself, us, and the space safe.  See you then!

Screenings clips from 4/6

For anyone who wants to check out the clips we watched of "comedy with consequences," here they are: Seth Meyers at the 2011 White House Correspondents dinner (watch all the way through, even if you think the jokes are boring):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YGITlxfT6s John Oliver on SLAPP suits:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN8bJb8biZU The Yes Men on the Chamber of Commerce: https://theyesmen.org/project/chamber/specialvideo
